Fall Meeting Draws Delegates From 46 Jurisdictions
The AASSWB Fall Delegate Assembly, held Nov. 7 - 9 in St. Louis, Mo., drew representation from 46 of the 52 member jurisdictions.
Delegates heard reports on finances, on the issue of English as a Second Language (ESL), and on the transition to a new test vendor, ACT of Iowa City.
A proposal to increase dues was referred back to the Finance Committee, to be presented again next fall. The proposal as made had presented two options, either a flat rate or payment based on the number of licensed social workers in each state, with both a maximum and a minimum.
The Finance Committee is to be expanded, with additional members to be named by the president, to look more closely at all possible options.
The ESL report, given by a psychometrician from ACT, covered the range of possible methods of coping with ESL candidates, including a first step of determining the readability level of the exams.
As scheduled, ACT will begin to administer the examinations on Jan. 2, 1998, as it starts a three-year contract. Reservations for the examinations are already being taken at the AASSWB national office in Culpeper, Va., via a toll-free telephone number.
