AASSWB ACE
Approved Continuing Education Program

Providers of continuing education for social workers can now become approved in a number of states and other jurisdictions with a single application.

AASSWB recently established a program called Approved Continuing Education (ACE) as a service to its member boards and providers. The Ace program reviews providers and can grant approval that now covers 14 states, with more being added.

Providers pay a fee and submit an application. The ACE program provides expert review of provider applications to determine whether appropriate criteria are met. Once a provider is approved, boards can be assured that the continuing education offered will be of acceptable quality for that jurisdiction's continuing education requirements. Participation by boards is voluntary, and some boards may continue to do their own approvals for CE.

FAQs
HOW ARE PROVIDERS EVALUATED?
Quality is assured by evaluation and monitoring the capabilities of providers of social work continuing education programs. The ACE program is based on a set of educational standards contained in the ACE Criteria for Selection. Providers who apply must demonstrate high standards of development, implementation, and assessment of their social work continuing education program in order to receive approval status.

WHAT DOES APPROVAL BY ACE MEAN?
AASSWB ACE providers are already accepted by fourteen of the state social work licensure boards that require continuing education. More boards are being added all the time, as the program grows. The jurisdictions listed accept programs offered by approved providers when they are submitted by social workers seeking to fulfill their continuing education requirements.

All social work member boards receive information on Ace providers. For an additional fee, providers can also have their individual course offerings advertised on the AASSWB website.

Participating boards: Alaska, Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virgin Islands, Wyoming.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
For now, AASSWB approves only providers, rather than individual offerings. ACE providers are approved for a one-year period and then may be renewed for three years. Application fees are reduced for schools of social work and professional social work organizations.
