New examination content outlines began July 1, 1998Beginning with tests administered July 1, 1998, all AASSWB examinations are now following new content outlines reflecting the results of the 1996 job analysis of social work practice. These changes have affected the percentage of exam items assigned to the various social work content areas on the examinations. The new content outlines can be found in the AASSWB Study Guides, Candidate Handbooks, and on this Website. To see both current and new content outlines, click HERE.
AASSWB Model State Social Work Practice ActAfter nearly two years of work, the AASSWB model law has been approved by the association's delegate assembly as a resource document and is available.
The model law represents AASSWB's first effort to create a comprehensive model for the regulation of social work, and approaches issues of legal regulation from a public protection/minimal competency standpoint. The model is a three-level practice act, with license designations for Licensed Baccalaureate Social Workers (LBSW), Licensed Masters Social Workers (LMSW), and Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW). Each designation also contains provisions allowing independent practice after receiving appropriate supervision, although only LCSWs are permitted to engage in private clinical practice.
The final draft of the model act has been sent to all AASSWB member boards, all state NASW chapters, all Clinical Social Work Federation chapters, the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work, the NASW national office, and the Council on Social Work Education.
